NEET Course Training
What is NEET?
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is an all-India medical entrance examination for students aiming to pursue undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), and AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy) courses in both government and private institutions within India. NEET also serves as a qualifying test for Indian students seeking medical qualifications abroad. Administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), NEET is designed to consolidate numerous pre-existing national medical entrance exams into one unified test to streamline the admission process to medical and dental colleges across the country.
Who is eligible for NEET?
Eligibility for NEET requires candidates to be at least 17 years old as of December 31 in the year of admission. There is no upper age limit as per the current guidelines. Aspiring students must have completed their 12th grade with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects. General category students must achieve a minimum of 50% in these subjects, while reserved category students need 40%. Candidates who have studied Biology as an additional subject in 11th and 12th grade are also eligible. NEET can be taken by Indian Nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and foreign nationals who meet these criteria.
What is the NEET exam pattern?
NEET is conducted in an offline mode (pen and paper-based) with a test duration of 3 hours and 20 minutes. The exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) divided among Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). Candidates are required to answer 180 of these questions. Each correct answer is awarded 4 marks, with a deduction of 1 mark for each incorrect response. The total marks for the exam are 720. The paper is set in multiple languages, providing accessibility to a broader range of students across India. The NEET syllabus includes topics from the 11th and 12th-grade curriculums of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, as prescribed by the NTA.
